Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Reputation management is crucial for organizations, especially when they face a crisis that threatens their public image. In Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, businesses and public institutions are increasingly recognizing the importance of corporate communication in managing and recovering from reputation crises. A well-executed communication strategy can help organizations restore trust, maintain stakeholder confidence, and rebuild their reputation after a crisis. Research has demonstrated that effective communication during a crisis can mitigate damage, reduce negative publicity, and facilitate the recovery process (Adamu & Bala, 2024). This study aims to explore the role of corporate communication in reputation crisis recovery strategies in Riyom, focusing on how businesses and organizations use communication tools to address crises, engage with stakeholders, and restore their reputation.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Many organizations in Riyom Local Government Area struggle with reputation crises that damage their public image and erode stakeholder trust. In some cases, the lack of a well-coordinated communication strategy exacerbates the crisis, leading to prolonged negative effects. This study seeks to investigate how corporate communication strategies are employed in crisis recovery, focusing on the methods used by organizations in Riyom to communicate during and after a crisis and assess their effectiveness in rebuilding their reputation and restoring public trust.
